Need help with flashing Ubiquiti NanoStation M2 (XM)

Forums:
I tried following the instructions for flashing AREDN on my Ubiquiti Nanostation M2 (XM version) and I wasn't able to do it. I'm trying to do this on Windows 10 with the built in tftp client. The device is currently running airOS v6.3.6 (XM). When I got to the transferring the binary file part I get a "Connect request failed" error. I held the reset button and got the 1-3, 2-4 flashing pattern, and was able to ping it while in flashing mode, but it won't accept the file. I also tried older versions of the AREDN firmware.

Users on 2.4Ghz and backbone on 5Ghz and above

Forums:

Hello Aredn members,

Looking at doing some retooling of our current Aredn setup.    We current are looking at only allowing the users to come through the 2.4Ghz access points and then using 5Ghz or unlicensed frequency from Unifi to run the data around the backbone.

Here are my questions.

1.  Is there a way to pin the AP points so it will only respond to users on 2.4Ghz and any other requests for an IP on other frequencies will be ignored.  This would be similar to the way you would do it on the full size internet.

Forums:

Around January of 2022 I decide to play around with a GL-iNet AR-750.

What I wound up with is a really portable node that has Mesh RF on 2 GHz ch -2 and a LAN access point on 5 GHz. And, it is powered by a 10,000 mAH usb battery which lasts 7 or 8 hours. It also has a tunnel client that can connect back home if one of the RF ports is changed over to a WiFi client. And, some other goodies found their way into the node.

802.11ac performance compared to 802.11n

Forums:

I have a 4+ mile LOS link to my local AREDN access point.  It's a Rocket M5 on a 60 degree sector.  On my end I had a Powerbeam M5 300.  The link has very good SNRs both directions.

Several weeks ago the Rocket started not responding for 10s of seconds every couple of minutes.  Coincidentally my old Powerbeam, which has been up on the tower for 5+ years, started locking up every couple of days, requiring a power-cycle to recover.

AREDN Nightly build update

Forums:

In the last month, over 40 nightly builds have been released.   As usual, most are minor changes.  However there are a handful of tweaks that can make your node behave more ""smoothly" on the network.

If you're way behind on your node firmware updates, think seriously about applying a recent nightly build.  And:

Suggested replacements for 802.11n equipment

Forums:
The table of 802.11ac suggested replacements for 802.11n equipment has been posted on the AREDN web site.  It's on the main page, in the right-hand Navigation column.  It's titled "Device Migration Suggestions".

How many RF connections is too many?

Forums:
Greetings:
I understand this likely depends on the capabilities of the hardware at both ends, so let's say we are talking about the latest supported Ubiquity Rocket and Mikrotik BaseBox models on a sector antenna.

With 10Mhz channels, how many >15dB connections can one of these nodes support before the node starts to fall over?   Said another way, how many RF connections can a node reasonably support before the mesh starts to suffer?

Frequencies of facing sector nodes

Forums:
Greetings:
As the mesh is being built out/planned, we are ending up with sectors on different towers facing each other that can easily make 20dB or better connections if they were on the same frequency.

My question for you is this:   should we have facing sectors on the same frequency, or should they be on difference frequencies and we use beams connected DtD to the sectors to tie together the two backbone locations?

Which is best for the mesh?
    Thanks,
    Charles
