Having problems Mikrotik PXE

Forums:

Does anyone have a clean copy of TinyPXE? When I try to download it for installing some Mikrotik devices my antivirus software is warning me that the TinyPXE installation available online contains a virus.

Any help/advice would be greatly welcomed at this stage.

Alternatively has anyone used a different PXE application which they would recommend?

Preconfigure alerts

Forums:
Not certain if this is best here or in the Development subforum, but I'm working on flashing a ton of nodes soon, and was wondering if there's a file I can edit to preconfigure the alerts feature. I'm already building a custom firmware from the nightly to include additional DHCP directives for IP phones. I presume it would be somewhere under the files/etc/ folder....

meshmap & docker

Forums:
Hello! I'm having trouble setting up a docker container to run the KG6WXC Meshmap. I know just enough about Docker to be dangerous but not enough to figure out what I'm doing from scratch. There are several images out there already but I can't get them to run and I don't know how to troubleshoot it. I'm running Ubuntu on a x86-64 mini-PC (not a raspi). I have half a dozen other containers already running with docker-compose files (that I largely didn't write myself).

Solar powered nodes - how do you power your antennas?

Forums:
Hi,

a question for those who run solar powered nodes - how do you power your antennas, what's the best way as per your experience?
  • with 12Volts directly from battery (as long as the devices are supporting this low voltage)
  • with 24Volts directly from two batteries (in series)
  • with 24Volts, from 12V to 24V up-converter
  • with 24Volts, from original POE injector connected to a 12V to 110V AC converter (most unlikely i guess)
  • others?

Mesh Map not polling

Forums:
Hi all,
Hoping someone can point me to a troubleshooting guide or something that could tell me why my MeshMap setup, while is accessible, is just not polling the connected nodes.

I have searched a lot over the last couple of days for something but am not finding anything that would point me to a cause for this to not work.

Any suggestions would be helpful, as I am not extremely familiar with all things Linux(Rasbian), I am learning quickly just lack the years of experience I have with the 'other' OS.

Thanks

Wide area network - advice

Forums:

Hi all,
I'm thinking of making a mesh that covers about 150 miles, using a dozen 200ft ham towers (one 400ft) around the area.
Area is central Florida so very flat. Existing vhf repeaters at this height have about 20 mile ranges.
Towers are spaced 10-20 miles apart, the hope is that we could make a mesh that would cover a good chunk of central Florida that "all we'd need is a small dish to aimed at a local tower and be on a large network".

AREDN on Hamvoip

Forums:
Hello all. Is it possible to connect AREDN to Hamvoip? I have two Hamvoip nodes I would like to connect. One is a UHF repeater and the other is a simplex node. On the repeater, I have DVSwitch Server connecting my TGIF talkgroup and I have Echolink, Hamshack hotline and Broadcastify connected. The simplex has nothing connected to it. If anyone can give me some advice or instructions for this, I would be grateful. Thank you very much. 73' de W2LPC.

easy GPS NTP server howto

Forums:

If you need a source for time and don't have regular internet for your node(s), you can use a GPS dongle to get good enough results.  This is NOT a high accuracy NTP 'stratum 1' option, but should be 'good enough' to milliseconds for your mesh.

First, you need to have a raspberry pi or other linux based computer with a base install, and a GPS that is compatible with pi/linux.
Install some packages to get gps and ntp functionality.
Then, tweak the gpsd and ntp configs to use GPS dongle.

0. Give your pi a static mesh IP assignment on the mesh

The AREDN Global Tunnel Server

Forums:

Years ago it was really difficult to get tunnels set up, so the AREDN team set up a "global" tunnel server to provide connectivity and many hams took advantage of it.

best hardware

Forums:

I have a chance to put new node or nodes on a local 200  foot tower to encourage local activity. Currently there is a bullet on 2.4 with an omni antenna. Tower work is being done which would allow new an additional nodes, possible 5 ghz to be installed. Currently no local activity but some interest. What hardware would be a good choice to install?
