Nodes with no lat/lon

Forums:
The mapping software that we're deploying is steadily reaching out farther and farther.  We're finding quite a few nodes that don't have lat/lon set, and without those the mapping software can't place your node on the map.

If your node is in this list, please ensure you've got its lat/lon set.

Note - if you have multiple nodes at the same site, offset their latitudes a bit so they can be differentiated on the map.

Thanks!

100% LQ 100% NLQ TxMbps 0

Forums:
We are using NanoStation M2 units here, Ch -2, 10 MHz BW. When two nodes are a mile apart with a fair amount of obstacles, I'm achieving 100% LQ, 100% NLQ and around 20-30 TxMbps which seems reasonable.  However, when I take another NSM2 to a mountain top with line of sight and 7 miles apart, same settings, I'm getting 100% LQ, 100% NLQ, but 0.0 TxMbps. I'm able to connect fine, but the link is quite a bit slower than the one mile link. It's still a single hop because I cannot see any other neighbors from the mountain top.

Controlling crossband repeater remotely

Forums:
Our ARES group routinely uses crossband repeaters for our public service activities that involve back country terrain issues.  Usually those are temporary installs, but we have one location where it would be convenient to be able to remotely re-configure the radio for different crossband frequency pairs.  And it is a location we could readily install a node tied into our fixed mesh infrastructure.

aredn.org DNS sub-domain delegation

Forums:

Aloha!

any chance the administrators of the arden.org domain would delegate a sub-domain; hawaii.arden.org to a few nameservers that I control?

Thanks,

NanoStation M2 Degradation?

Forums:
We have installed multiple NSM2 units and are building out a mesh here in Livermore, CA. I've had a link up and running for about two months or more with NSM2 units at either end at a mile apart. We are set up as 2 GHz, Ch -2, 10 MHz BW. When installed and for the first month or so, I was getting over 20 Mbps link data rate in both directions. However, it is slowly degrading to where now it is around 8 Mbps. The weather conditions have been about the same as before. Signals have been around -80 dBm at either end and that's been fairly consistent.

Spectrum charts and the take-aways

Forums:
Check out these very interesting spectrum charts now posted under the Docs->KnowledgeBase area:

https://www.arednmesh.org/content/spectrum-charts

Thanks to Ken KE2N for capturing this data on a Rocket M2, Rocket M5, and a Mikrotik Basebox 2.  We were discussing what conclusions we might draw from these charts, but seemed to have more questions.   These charts were produced on the bench with nodes in proximity to each other, so you can assume the highest MCS rate was in use to capture the data.

Default gateway on nodes

Forums:

I hope I have the right category.

I have made a few changes last week as suggested by an IT guy that knows a lot more than I do. And unchecking the DHCP block on the nodes. This caused all of my cameras to loose their lease. Well I finally got most of them back working now but the Axis cameras that I have will not function thru the Axis Companion website any more. One thing I noticed now is the default gateway on several of the nodes now say.

Tunnels on the nightly builds

Forums:
I got this from Eric, KG6WXC.  It may be helpful to testers out there:

If you're running tunnels on your node, and you want to test the new AREDN firmware, here's what you need to do to re-establish your tunnels after upgrading:

You need to install (in this order):

Expected distances for a low level mesh

Forums:

I'm looking to install a mesh in parallel to a radio link system for an annual public event this year in order to test throughput.  I'll likely be the only person active on it to check connections, but if it works out OK, I'll be looking to expand its use next year (have to work on getting traffic to one node that will be too far for normal communications at this time).
