Battery Power options

Forums:

I am new to this and currently just have my stuff plugged into AC in my house. My setup in my home will be 2 x Ubiquity NSM2 , 1 ip phone POE, and a 5 port POE switch that everything will be plugged into.  I need to keep all this small and light for various reasons and I only want a couple of hours of run time right now.  I am considering just buying a computer UPS.

Best strategy for a relay node

Forums:
We need to communicate with a mesh node in a difficult location, which cannot be reached directly.
Perhaps an intermediate relay node would make it possible.  We tried a node with an omni antenna and it does not work.
What equipment would work best for this?  2.4 ghz.
Two dishes connected to a dual port node?

Needed:Mesh proposal Template: Submit to town

Forums:
Greetings all,
After several years of talking about Mesh at meetings and providing demos, our local ham EMCOMM group (Queen Creek, AZ) is ready submit an proposal to the town council for the deployment of several mesh nodes throughout the town to support communications.  We have nodes ready to be deployed and the support of the EMA Director for the town.  We just need to craft the proposal to obtain the permission from the town to start deploying nodes on municipality buildings and properties.

Network diagramming tool?

Forums:
I used Visio for many years, but it's too expensive for my Ham use now. What tools do most use to create network diagrams - I have a presentation coming up and need some pictures worth 1000 words.

Thanks!

AREDN Mesh at Solar Car Challenge

Forums:

On July 16-22 the Shine Runners Club, a high school club in Mansfield, Texas, that designs, builds, and races solar powered race cars, participated in the Solar Car Challenge at Texas Motor Speedway. AREDN mesh nodes, provided by the Mansfield-Johnson Amateur Radio Service (https://www.mjars.org/), were used between the solar powered race car and the pit to monitor the various data generated by the car.

Nanostation Bricked?

Forums:
I tried to install 3.15.1 on a factory Nanostation.  It seemed to be going
fine but then never came back at the end.  It may have been running
Airos 5.6. Not sure. I cannot run the test program as I have XP.  I have
tried all the tactics listed here and elsewhere. Nothing works. The leftmost
two lights are always on solid green and no other lights show anything.  I
cannot ping it.  Help!

Deployment advice

Forums:

I am trying to start an ARDEN mesh group in and around the Ann Arbor Michigan area and I am looking for suggestions about what hardware to purchase to get the mesh started off at my house. My first thought was to have an AirRouter HP in my shack for gateway and tunnel service. I would then have a Bullet M2 and an Omni out at my shed for the hams in my neighborhood to get in on the mesh with. I would also have a 100 ft mast/pole attached to the side of the shed for the wide area node(s). Now comes the question, what hardware goes up in the air?

Newby question: Scanning for Nodes

Forums:
Andre's superb presentation at the Torrance ARRL ham convention has me really interested to establish a node in Central Los Angeles (near Griffith Park roughly). I've studied procedures for loading the AREDN firmware, and I have a 2.4gig and a 5gig Ubituiti NanoStation on order. When I;m ready to mount the devices, how do I scan for an available signal? Or do you just map it out, set it up and check if it works? I'm closest to DTLA, but oibstructed. I do have perfect line-of-sight to Mt. Wilson and surrounding, so maybe the nodes in Pasadena will work. Any thought of putting a node on Mt.

Extend Aredn into Coachella Valley

Forums:
I learned last weekend that Aredn have a node that is pointing into Coachella Valley from San Bernardino. What equipment is needed to extend the network into Coachella valley and then continue towards Phoenix? I hope someone can suggest a complete setup and about how much it will cost.
