The installation instructions
The installation instructions are here:  http://www.aredn.org/content/uploading-firmware-ubiquiti

A KEY STEP is to look at the warning at the top of that page related to AirOS 5.6 and higher.

Ensure that you installed
  1. Ensure that you installed AREDN over AirOS 5.5
  2. Ensure that you changed your PC's network interface back to DHCP addressing
  3. Unplug the network cable from your PC
  4. Close your browser
  5. Re-plug the network cable
  6. Open your browser
  7. go to http://localnode:8080

Try that.

I am a little Confused
What does the Air Router itself do in the Node?I am assuming it will allow it to connect to internet? This type of node is new to me so sorry if i am asking a lot of questions. But node is running and able to connect to it via computer if connected. But still got router issues.

Thank's

A little confused
Tim,

A little confused is where most of us got started.  With the exception of the great bunch who have lead this adventure into AREDN, we all struggled to understand most of this.  First, when you flash your hardware with the AREDN firmware, you drastically alter how it works.  That statement is not as scary as it sounds, but you do need to change a lot of what you knew about routers to begin to understand it all.  The links in a MESH network are formed over the wireless part of the device rather than the wired, backwards from what we all took for granted with normal internet routers.

These fine folks here have done a wonderful job of providing us with a seriously functional platform.  It does take some reading ahead of time to get properly started.  There are a few cautions that are essential for success including the necessity of knowing what version of the hardware you will be working with. A failure here will provide you with a brick, either useless or requiring a lot of extra work to recover it.

There are several Ubiquity devices available and capable of AREDN service.  Each has it's own unique properties and capabilities.  Some are single port devices, Bullit, AirGrid, etc.  The AirRouter is much like the normal routers we have known and used.  It has multiple ports, some have special properties that provide for the gateway function and others, providing the MESH network with internet access.  You need to be using the correct port to administer the device and utilize these alternate functions.  Initial access to the Ubiquity device will give you fits if you do not follow recommended steps and likewise after it's flashed with AREDN.  Check the process and follow the recommended steps to insure success.

Like many of us, I am still learning and exploring the many aspects of MESH networking.  You will be  successful as well after a few small steps and learning as you go.  Don't give up.  The potential here is huge and what we can do with AREDN is nearly limitless.  All thanks to some very talented and dedicated folks who saw the potential and put a lot of work into providing something that we can all use.

related problem
Hi, i'm also unable to reach anything at http://localnode:8080.  i have done the following:
- downgraded firmware on my new Rocket M2 to 5.5.11, re-ran u-boot with result = good good
- installed AREDN over AirOS 5.5
- set my pc network interface to DHCP addressing
- steps 3-7 above

... but i get a "this site can't be reached' error, also indicates "localnode's server DNS address could not be found."  ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED

part of this issue may be that i used windows 10 via parallels on my iMac. i was not able to see the initial AirOS page when i had device plugged directly into the iMac ethernet port, but i did see it when i plugged the Rocket LAN port into my home router, which allowed me to proceed to where i am now.  however i can't find an option on the iMac/settings/network windows to "Obtain DNS server address automatically", as indicated in the "Uploading firmware to Ubiquiti" picture/text instructions page. on parallels/windows 10/network connections / properties, IPV4 / properties, the "Obtain DNS server address automatically" button is populated, but after steps 3-7 above i still get "Hmm, we can't reach this page"

Any help much appreciated!!

Give the fully qualified
Give the fully qualified domain name a try:   http://localnode.local.mesh:8080 .    When ever I use my work laptop, it has policies that spell out domainnames to search through and  it will automatically append my company's domainnames to the hostname.    Maybe there is a similar issue with your setup.

Also, the assumption is this laptop/desktop is connected on the Mesh Node's LAN network and this is not mixed in somehow with the home network.  If default mesh node settings, your windows 10 OS should have received a 10.x.x.x address.

Which device(s) did you load with AREDN firmware?  Is this more than, e.g. a Nanostation and your desktop?

AirRouter Access
I don't think you will actually address the AirRouter outside of the AREDN firmware once you have flashed it.  All the features and access available is
done via the node access and AREDN.  You have an AREDN node rather than a router once you flash it with AREDN.  New functions specific to the AREDN node firmware should give you everythging that you need and as desired, much of what you would have with the Ubiquity firmware would be there although under the AREDN setup as provided for.

OK Thank's i just wanted to make sure no one else was able to use wifi,it does not show up on Wifi networks but on Node it does when i scan it.Still learning and willing.I just want to make sure everything is good to go.I havent set any Tunnel yet?Any suggestions on that set up?

Saw you got posted on the map.  Not sur eif you have figured out the listing there.  When you click on a node on the map it will tell you the ssid AREDN-xx-v3  the xx is the bandwithg 20 10 or 5 mhz.  Then you can see the channel #.  I also tells you the Type of Node.   How high is your node located?

As of now its not mounted but, hopefully this week end i will get it up about 30'.Best i can do.It's better then no feet i guess. And yes i finally am making some progress, the router gave me a fit.Although after some researching on here and brain storming i finally was able to get it up.Not sure about Tunnel? That needs to be worked on.I have learned a few things about this Node though, good thing.Because this was a bit of a learning curve but i like it or i would not do it.I am looking at also putting the Node on a BU power supply when i mount it.My Station does have that but the Antenna will be mounted on my shed with a source supply. The more i learn about it the more i want to know.

Is the cat5 from the Rocket
Is the cat5 from the Rocket (if it is on the roof) come down to the POE and be next to the AirRouter?   If so, plug the LAN port of the Rocket POE brick into Port 4 of the AirRouter.    (This assumes you have previously loaded AREDN on the Rocket  and the AirRouter with your callsign.)  Plug the desktop/laptop in to any one of the AirRouter LAN ports 1 to 3.     Plug the AirRouter WAN Port into your home network.   Now power everything back up and you should be able to access the internet AND browse to the AirRouter via "http://localnode.locl.mesh:8080" from you computer.  Go to "mesh status" and you should see the Rocket M2 listed under Neighbors.

This would be a 2 node network.  Get others to point their antennas to your Rocket-Sector to extend the network.   but it's only interesting until you start adding-defining services to communicate over the network (voip, ipcam, etc.) and begin to use it.

Tim,  bingo.   The AirRouter

Tim,  bingo.   The AirRouter is set to "ch -1" @ 20Mhz and the Rocket looks to be on "ch -2" @ 20Mhz.      Change both of them to "ch -2" @ 10Mhz channel width--assuming you want them to talk to each other via RF.     The 20Mhz will slip past the edge of our licensing on ch -2.   ch -1 has overlap with the wifi ch 1 signals nearby, so best to drop down to ch -2, unless you reall do want them on 2 different channels.

there doesn't appear to be a network cable between the Rocket and the Airrouter to 'DtDlink' them together.  Is this by design or one more issue to work out?  They do see each other via RF, but when they are at same location, always best to let them route over the hard cable and not put more RF traffic in the air than necessary.

This will be under the 'Setup
This will be under the 'Setup' page  on both the Rocket M2 and the AirRouter HP.     Just plug your computer respectively into the LAN port of each device, browse to http://localnode:8080 , then make sure the settings are the same:

channel = -2
channel width = 10Mhz
SSID = AREDN <- this is default

This is what you well tell other ham buddies to set their AREDN devices to when they want to connect to your Sector Antenna on the shed.   Hopefully, it is sufficiently high up for line of sight needed for others to connect in.

Good, the AirRouter looks to be all setup just right.  I can see it is also connected to your home network.     The Rocket is not live with a 10Mhz channel width, at least it's not heard by the AirRouter.  if you take a network cable and plug directly between your computer and the Rocket (LAN port on POE brick), then power up both devices, you should be able to browse to http://localnode:8080 and do the same setup configuration  of ch- -2 and 10Mhz width.  Then they should see each other in mesh status.

Down load the support data of
Down load the support data of the Rocket, then we can see its configuration.   The AirRouter would have seen the Rocket's signal if on 10Mhz channel width even if given the same name.   Guessing the Rocket is not yet at 10Mhz channel width and may need to change the name of the rocket.   A good practice is to include the device in the name:

AE6XE-RM5-90-QTH <- Rocket M5 with 90 deg sector at my QTH
AE6XE-NSM3-XYZpeak  <- nanostation  M3 at XYZpeak location

Tim,  you were very close.
Tim,  you were very close.  The support data says the Rocket was configured correctly.  If they weren't linking up, then probably the signal was blocked too much to hear each other from shed to shack?  I'll have to go back and look, but the default power settings are not the highest power--might have been handicapped?

The reset button will reset the root password to default or reset back to AREDN first boot if held long enough.   When you're ready to give another shot, send me separate email and maybe we can get it going.

Tim,  are you referring to
Tim,  are you referring to "maps" to mean this ->  http://www.aredn.org/content/aredn-map-0  ?    It looks like you have these names for the 2 mesh nods:

AirRouter:    KE4HGP-RocketM2   <- you may want to change this to KE5HGP-AR-FM16xs
Rocket M2:  KE4HGP-RM2-FM16xs

To also add the Rocket M2 to the AREDN map:

1) browse  to "http://KE4HGP-RM2-FM16xs.local.mesh:8080/cgi-bin/setup"
2) scroll down to the optional settings
3) type in lat, long, grid square
4) click "Apply Location settings"
