Add new node to map
Im setting up a few nodes in my area and there is nothing else around me on the AREDN map. How do i add my nodes to the map to spur more people to do the same once i convince them to put some up as well?

AREDN MESH Node Mapping
Leland,

At the bottom of the Basic Setup page you will find the Mapping capability. If you have the GPS coordinates, enter them and apply them.
Otherwise you can use the Find Me and Show Map function to determine your location.  Once you have entered and applied the location
settings, use the Upload data to AREDN Servers function to get your Node(s) on the map.  It is pretty fast and you should see your Nodes
appear right away in most cases.

I hope this helps,

Jim

Internet access needed

As a reminder, your node needs Internet access to be able to upload its data to the AREDN map.   Natively they don't have that access, but it can be provided by adding a Mikrotik hAP AC Lite, running AREDN firmware, to the mix.  Like this:

Nice diagram - well done,

Nice diagram - well done, explains the incredible value of using the Swiss Army Knife MikroTik model. You might want to also show that, unless you are using that 2.4 for inside mesh connections, you would need to turn off the 2.4Ghz (mesh) RF in that device in most cases, so that you don't have a duplicate path to the DtD external node (or any others) if it's also 2.4, and so that you can use 2.4 as an option for your local AP as shown in your diagram.

Thanks,

Mikritik hap
Is then POE output useful, since it looks to be only 5 V.

The hAP ac lite has an input
The hAP ac lite has an input voltage spec of 8-30Vdc.  The PoE it supplies is simply this input voltage.  So run it at 24v for most other devices we support.

IIRC, MikroTik documentation

IIRC, MikroTik documentation suggests an approx 2V drop from POE-in to POE-out (DtD port). Of course, due to Joe's great programming on this, the POE-out is available as an On/Off toggle in the Advanced settings.

Sorry, I *meant* the entire team of AREDN developers

I was typing my post quickly - sorry I *meant* the entire team of AREDN developers does a *fantastic* job. Guess I was focusing on my email conversation with Joe awhile back about the Swiss Army Knife features.  Transient problem existed between chair and keyboard (must have been the result of that ~2V drop).

Apologies to all,

AREDN MESH Node Mapping - Firmware 3.25.2.0
Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can assist and provide guidance.  I'm new to Aredn and it seems that the firmware version I am on (3.25.2.0) differs in the way adding a node to the map compared to versions prior.  My GUI looks different than what is referenced earlier in this post, and I can't seem to find any function to "Upload data to AREDN Servers".

My hardware is hAP ac lite + Ubiquiti PowerBeam 5AC 500.  The PowerBeam is on port 5 and WAN active on port 1 of the hAP.  I have a separate 24V POE to the PowerBeam (POE not supplied by the hAP). Seems like internet through the WAN is working as both units are syncing time and upon firmware update check, they both indicate they are up to date.  Both on 3.25.2.0.

I've been fiddling with different settings, but my node doesn't show on the AREDN map.  However, I am not connected to any other nodes (besides the hAP and PowerBeam talking to each other).  Maybe I need to establish a mesh connection first to another node?

My first attempt to join a Mesh was to Mt Wilson (KK6DA-LA-MtWilson-SW).  But so far no luck.  My grid is DM04tc.  I have a narrow line of sight to Mt. Wilson, Mt Oat, Mt Lukens, and a better LOS down towards the Port of Los Angeles.

Maybe there are no nodes I have LOS to at the moment, but I'd be happy to set mine up to point down towards the port of Los Angeles if that is the case.  But if I'm not on the map, no one would know I exist and there would be no hope for someone to attempt to connect to my node.

This is all pretty fun and interesting to try out.

Thanks to anyone that has any advice and expertise they can share.

Matthew, do you have line of sight to Verdugo Peak, north of Burbank (bearing about about 50 degrees)?  There are two 5 GHz nodes up there, K6PVR-Verdugo-W-Sector-5G and K6PVR-Verdugo-S-Sector-5G.   You should be able to hit one or the other.   See the World Map for more info (https://worldmap.arednmesh.org/).

AREDN Map
Matthew -

When your node is connected to one of the mountain-toppers, you will appear on the AREDN World Map within a few hours.  You need do nothing except get a link.

Welcome to AREDN
