VPN Server on LAN node timeout
I added a VPN server (TP-Link TL-R600VPN) to my LAN.

I can access my services by IP and other LAN items fine but when I access a node it hangs at the "redirecting to status page" and times out.

Anyone else have experience with this?

If I use a port forwarding (and not the VPN) the node comes up fine.

Can you load the status page
Can you load the status page directly over VPN?
http://localnode.local.mesh:8080/cgi-bin/status

in other words, does it appear that it is strictly the http://localnode.local.mesh:8080/index.html "refresh" that is hanging up?

VPN
No it times out if I go direct.
After more troubleshooting, I found that it does work if I am on a Wifi that allows VPN but if I go through the cell system (T-mobile in my case) it does not.

Hmmm.

Update - solved
Well the problem was in T-Mobile.  Apparently they can use IPV6 which doesn't play well with the VPN.
You are able to force ipv4 by:
1. settings
2. more networks
3. mobile networks
4. Access point names
5 copy all the info in the t-mobile on down
6. create a new one called IPV4
7. Set the APN protocol and roaming protocol to IPV4
8. get out and select this APN
I will have to test further to make sure this has no ill effects, but so far OK.
Hope this helps someone!

Update
That worked for one day then it quit.
It seems that data over cell systems have a problem with VPN.
Also a lot of wifi hot spots won't work.  This is ironic since they are the ones that are vulnerable to hacking yet they block VPN to solve the problem.
I'm not sure how but I know my router has a box to check to pass VPN traffic.  I don't think it is just the port being blocked or I would switch to another.
There is probably another way but I haven't figured it out.  Help

Update
It's working consistently now with the T-Mobile network mod.
I'm still a little annoyed that about half of wifi hotspot providers don't support PPTP VPN.

Yes.  The *Best* vpn solution
Yes.  The *Best* vpn solution that I found while "roaming" is to use OpenVPN on port 80 or 443.
