I read earlier that the TL-SG108E could now be used for Internet gateway applications with the latest firmware, so I gave it a try for the project I am working on. At first, I was not able to reconfigure VLAN 1 - it kept hanging the switch. I discovered that you have to define all the other VLANs first, while also ensuring that all ports are in at least 1 VLAN. Then, and only then, you can redefine VLAN 1. Finally, you can assign the PVIDs as needed.
In summary:
1. Add new VLANs
2. Verify that your final config will assign each port to at least 1 VLAN
3. Reconfigure VLAN 1
4. Assign PVIDs
As a final note, unlike Netgear, you need to explicitly save the config on TP-Link switches. Rob
