Microtik Basebox 5

Microtik Basebox 5
So I have many basebox 5 Mikrotik rb's running the last stable of 3.22.12.0.  Is there not a new stable in 3.23.4.0 for the basebox?  I tried to install  the version with 912uag-5hpnd, and I got a notice of "firmware cannot be updated, file not recognized"

If you take a look at https://github.com/aredn/aredn/blob/main/SUPPORTED_DEVICES.md you’ll see that that Basebox 5 is one of the unfortunate devices that must be reinstalled rather than upgraded. We’re sorry about this, but due to the nature of the hardware and changes to OpenWRT, we haven’t found a way to do a simple upgrade. This is a one-time thing however - it will only be necessary for this upgrade, after which the usual process will be possible again.

That's a real problem.  All
That's a real problem.  All five are on dishes and sector antennas in difficult locations. They have been through many updates in the last five years.

Bummer!
We too have a ton of these in the system here in the Islands. A lot of them are in difficult places. Guess we'll have to take a number and wait!

So an update on this

So an update on this situation. There is now a way to upgrade both the Basebox5 and the QRT5 without having to do a complete reinstall. To make the update possible, you must start with 3.22.12.0 installed, then install a special package https://github.com/kn6plv/DangerousUpgrade, and then do the upgrade. Full details can be found in the updated https://github.com/aredn/aredn/blob/main/SUPPORTED_DEVICES.md.

I had success with one of my Basebox5's using DangeroutUpgrade with 2002 upgraded to 3.23.4.0.
The other I was successful with 3.22.12.0 as well.
So I would think it would work with most any version newer than 3.22.12.0.
