Hardware Bill-of-Materials (BOM) / Schedule
I've made a first-pass at putting together a AREDN Node hardware breakdown/bill-of-materials/cost schedule. I'm using this as my own guide for pricing hardware for use with AREDN when browsing ebay/craigslist/etc... Use as you please. Updates welcome.

Look into the

BM2-TI

The nodes putout a lot of Broadband RF noise, and the Ti's case is a hard shield.

Cat6a cable and shielded connectors, and a grounded switch.

Ti

The Rocket M5 and M2 Titanium series use the XW board which cannot be used with AREDN load (at present, anyway).

whats the Bullet M2 Titanium
whats the Bullet M2 Titanium doing on the Firmware for Ubiquiti list? or is there a board version that is compatible?

I think the Bullet M2 Ti is XM still.  Has anyone seen otherwise?

Titanium Devices
I have no first-hand experience with them, but I have been told by a WISP that the Titanium Rockets tend to overheat and fail.  This comment comes from a San Diego installer, so a cooler environment may not exhibit the same issues.

Selecting Ubiquiti Equipment

Hard to comment before seeing a network diagram... but I would question:

  • Use of Bullets forgoes the benefits of MIMO.  MIMO's use of both vertical and horizontal polarizations simultaneously greatly improves link quality, reliability, and data rates;
  • I don't see M3 devices.  Long hauls will likely benefit from the very quiet 3.4 GHz band and there's no commercial competition on moutain-top sites.

i agree.  In place of the Bullets, you should prefer Rockets (IMHO) for the MIMO advantages today, and in the future.

rockets and bullets

My comment was specifically for the Rocket, not the Bullet (people starting with a blank piece of paper should looking at MIMO devices for most locations as noted above). The Bullet is a different animal. They both have "M" in the name just to confuse you.

You can look at the Ubiquiti support pages to see what firmware is listed as the latest firmware update for whichever piece of hardware you are considering. The file names of the firmware loads will start with XM or XW for Rockets and Bullets. That latest firmware will tell you what version of hardware is shipping from the factory. I note that the Bullet firmware now says "airOS for XM board firmware v5.6.3".  The fact that they are spelling this out hints that an XW version is on the way.

eBay may have New Old Stock items or used items which would be the previous versions even if an XW comes out.

I agree that 3ghz is best for
I agree that 3ghz is best for long hall out the SF bay area. W2GMD and I would like to bridge the East bay to SF. directly linking the UCB evens hall site to a location in the Mission District, they do have LOS. Then NB6GC would pick up the Mission district node and or UCB and provide local mesh for a project.
The NB6GC site has great LOS to the East bay and South bay. The site is no Go for 2.4ghz, the Marin fleet uses wifi for load management. 5ghz looks to be prime.
Any thoughts on AGM5-HP-27 vs NB-5G25 ? they are bouth MIMO right?

I would like to here your thought on this link! Sector antennas with rockets, and a few AG or NB. ive provided a map for reference.

Im still trying to get linked up with the NorCal-SoCal Backbone in order to approach the WW6BAY sites, then I can think about linking in to the Pink.

AGM5-HP-27 vs NB-5G25
The AirGrid is a single antenna device (It's basically a Bullet in the feed horn).  I'd recommend the NB over the AG, given MIMO advantage--it's compelling.

Question
Is this is just for one node? Which kind of node? The desktop node is different, right?

You don't buy every node on the BOM.  I think this is meant as a reference for pricing for various models.

Got it, take what I need for the nodes in my plan.

M3 not m365
You do not want any M365 devices (not in HAM band). You want M3 devices.
