Hi all,
Nice to see your booth at SCALE. I'm very interested. I've been interested in metro wireless networks for awhile. I have a side job consulting at a small wireless ISP which is where I have mainly focused my interest over the years. Back in '08 I registered a domain name to start organizing a wireless mesh in LA, but never really got the party going. Oh well. I was happy to see that others have made so much progress. Super cool!
I live in the San Fernando Valley which should be a clean shot to Oat Mountain, or possibly Chatsworth Peak. I'd like to get a link up to either one of those locations. It's a mesh network, so just like a VHF/UHF repeater, all I need is a radio and a callsign. Cool. But I'm interested in some of the nitty-gritty stuff. Other than this forum, are there "Net's", meetings, technical meetups, etc for AREDN and OCMesh?
There are groups active in Ventura County, Orange County and San Diego County but we're unaware of any organized mesh group in L.A. County. Ask your ham friends. There's a Facebook page for AREDN too, if that's your thing. But the forums here are the best source of technical information.
We have plans to put a 2.4 GHz user access node on Verdugo Peak sometime this year and it will tie into the backbone that's under construction.
If there are other mountaintop mesh nodes active we'd love to hear about them.

I had a closer look at the map:
http://usercontent.arednmesh.org/K/5/K5DLQ/livemap2.html?zoom=3&lat=33.656&lon=-117.637&z=8
...and it appears that the node on Oat is a tunnel node.
I'm not sure if I can hit Verdugo Peak or not. I will have to run a splat plot to see. It would also depend on the antenna on the peak. Would it use panel antenna's?
Anyways, I'll say 'Hi' in the SoCal forum. [...edit...] errr Los Angeles County forum.
Hi Jeff,
I noticed your location on the AREDN map. And see you are very close to my location. I'm a couple blocks West of Von's market. Are you still participating in AREDN? I just started reading about it a week ago. So I have a lot of info to digest.
