David,
I have had great results using a Rocket M5 XW as tunnel server and client, bought used from ebay. The only inconvenience is that you need to run a managed switch along with it for the individual vlans. Mine sits inside my network cabinet, segmented by vlans on a switch that is part of my home network. That's how I provide DtD and AREDN_LAN to another switch by my tower for connectivity to other nodes/end devices.
If you are trying to replace an AirRouter, the mikrotik looks like the best way to go.
While the initial AREDN firmware load on a Mikrotik is painful, it runs VERY nicely, and I was able to retire my GS108eV2 managed switch in the process. Eventually I'll be able to retire my AirRouter too.
I would say that i dont have 10 connections only between 4- 5. The problem i have is the size of the olsrd routing table growing to large. The nodes dont have a lot of memory.
How was limit of 10 derived?
There lookes to be a table size limit, but thats based on the amout of ram on an idivigual node?
The count is arbitrary placing a ceiling on the resources consumed. Each tunnel connection consumes something like 500k RAM. A 32M RAM device would be unstable trying to handle this count. A ~$45 hAP AC lite may be the lowest cost device available with 64M RAM.
Hello, I am trying to install the tunnel client software on my AREDN flashed RB952Ui as instructed once I'm logged on.<br />
Then I get "ERROR: Package installation failed"<br />
I'm probably something basic. Any help would be appreciated.
The tunnel software has to be the same version as the firmware you have installed. If you're on a nightly build that's not from last night you'll have to bring it current before installing the software (since all the packages for the nightly builds are updated along with every build). That may be the issue.
Also having trouble installing the Tunnel on a hAP
I also just installed a nightly build on the hAP and using the 5Ghz AP option. Seems to work well. Thanks all!
I used the PXE Windows installer -- worked great. Thanks KK6RAY !
However, I also am having trouble installing the Tunner Server or Client.
From the above message (11/03/18) I'm not sure I understand. Do we need to install the Tunnel software different than is typically installed via the UI? ...or is the statement implying that we need to downgrade the firmware back to a stable version?
The nightly build changes quite often. Each time a new build is posted an appropriate set of packages is made available for download directly from the AREDN browser interface. In order to install the tunnel package you will need to upgrade your firmware to the current nightly build.
What is the best practice to shutdown the tunnel for firmware upgrades? Seems that you need to chase down the checkboxes to "catch them" like a video game.

as you check/or uncheck each one, wait for your browser to finishing re-loading the page before moving to the next one. (ie. about 1-2 seconds generally)
I'm assuming AREDN can be loaded on the Mikrotik.

On the hAP I 'm using
and getting the following error:
Package installation failed!
Tunnel software needs to be installed.
Thanks in advance for clarification.
