Getting back online
Hello AREDN:
I have not been own for along time.
Would like info on equipment to get on the network?
Have some WRT58G units?
Thank you for your understanding.
I live out in the country an would like setup a network
from here.  I live in Rocksprings Texas.

Software > Supported Device
Software > Supported Device Matrix lists all supported devices.

It is recommended to read through the datasheet of the devices and understand what each can do.  The NanoStation's are general starter radios as they have built in antenna, dual chain (MIMO)   Single chain devices (Bullet's, picostations, etc) would be towards the bottom of the list of what I would recomend (you really want to have MIMO in most all cases)

reply / on datasheets on units
Hello Sir:
I will start reading the data sheets first, then go from there.
Thank you.

AREDN ditched Linksys
If you want to try and get mesh running on those, try Broadband Hamnet. Older protocols and a bit slower, but runs on Linksys and is compatible with AREDN if on a positive channel.

More accurately AREDN
More accurately AREDN followed the previously announced End of Support for Linksys devices announced by BBHN. With BBHN going EOL on Linksys it didn't make sense to continue code effort.

Honestly I wouldn't expend the effort on Linksys devices. While one can indeed link them in they suffer so much from not being able to go to channel -2, not having true MIMO, lack of receiver sensitive and power output levels. In addition the "Linksys Lemmings" Flaw inside BBHN is pretty nasty too, it started as nodes just jumping channels ages ago to go to whatever channel another mesh decide is on, BBHN claimed this as a feature even though it made it so you couldn't really control the RF settings, this has now gone further where the nodes can be seen to "jump off the cliff" if they get near a node on -1.

BBHN Core Team member and Webmaster Jim Kinter has previously stated "If it is just tabletop exercise, then WRTs will work just fine and are seriously inexpensive and plentiful. If you want to connect buildings across town, go with UBNT." http://www.broadband-hamnet.org/hsmm-mesh-forums/view-postlist/forum-1-g... honestly I have to agree fully with the statement, especially considering I've managed to have an AirRouter link 2 miles with stock antennas inside my office where I couldn't get a Linksys to reach outside with an added antenna.

No argument here. I think
No argument here. I think everything has its purposes. I think the WRTs' are getting people interested and short range network extensions. I use AREDN to connect to the SoAZ mesh but I have 3 Linksys devices I use around the house. Really nice for rig control or contest logging over mesh, but I agree don't try to use them long range. But that's the magic of DtD linking - I can run both of them as part of the same net!

Walter,

Walter,
Welcome to AREDN. I recently moved from linksys to ubiquiti devices. I live in Kerrville, TX. Our local club currently has a mesh connecting to our repeater where we have a raspberry pi doing some control functions. Let's get together and see if we can get a mesh network up and running in the western part of the Texas Hill Country. email me at "mycall at arrl dot net" if interested.
