There are several "AirCam" ipcams on the local mesh. Not seeing a timeout issue, however I don't think these are the latest generation of Ubiquiti ipCams. The URL in use looks like this:
I frequently use a playlist with VLC to scroll through a dozen ipCams on the local mesh. Save this to a file, e.g. "mesh_playlist.pls" and open with VLC, then hit the ">>" next chapter/song button to go to the next ipCam.
We are using the later Ubuquiti cameras, the UVC G2 model.
The url they say to use is rtsp://(ip address of camera):554/s0
It works fine for a minute or so and then disconnects, with vlc.
It works fine also with the http interface, but that is only intended for administration, and has limited capabilities.
But we have been forced to use it anyway.
We found that VLC 2.2 works better on mesh with these changes:
I am running vlc media player 2.2.2 in Ubuntu 16.02. The preferences
will like look different in other OSs.
Right click in the vlc window and select Tools/Preferences
At the bottom select Show settings "All"
On the "Advanced settings" page
Check "Only show current"
Uncheck "Use a plugins cache"
Uncheck "Video/Drop Late Frames"
Uncheck "Video/Skip frames"
Thanks for the suggestions, but it still does not work.
VLC disconnects after a minute.
And this is just with the camera going to the PC, not trying the mesh yet.
It has the latest firmware. AirCam is the name of their previous camera, which they no longer support much.
Now they have the UVC G2 and soon will have the G3. I really like buying from Ubiquiti as they are an American company so their
manuals and software are in clear English, and you can actually talk to their engineers. In contrast to all the Chinese cameras
on then market. Now is only we could make it work....
Their engineers tell me it works fine in their shop.
Also just FYI they are now starting a tradeup program where you can trade in your old Aircams and get 50% the cost of their newer
cameras.

THIS thread also mentioned having problems with VLC and recommended mplayer as an alternative. You might give it a shot.
