I just finished a 3 week test of the GXV3240 video phone; it has a lot to offer Meshies. I am still amazed at all it will do.
And like all newer Grandstream phones (GXP1630 gets an honorable mention too), you can make & receive calls by dialing the IP address of the other phone... even to BasicTalks. A PBX/SIP is not needed, though they can be configured to operate through these systems as well.

well, yeah... it's pricey. But it is a VoIP phone, video phone, two port ethernet switch, surf the Meshernet, and WiFi HotSpot... all rolled into one. The ability to add Android Apps and having an HDMI output port are icing on the cake.
We are envisioning the main benefit when located in command centers, EMA mobile offices, and club houses; granted it's kinda difficult to justify for Tactical nodes.
There will be one of these GXV3240 at the Hamvention Mesh booth; stop by and drool ... err... I mean "check it out !"
due to an idea proposed by Tom K1KY... I bought a Bluetooth keyboard with touchpad to see if it would work on this phone. The keyboard paired with the phone effortlessly, and a cursor appeared on the phones LCD screen:

It is kinda small in size; though the keyboard is backlit. I was able to surf Mesh via browser, now using a mouse- type touchpad and click on links using mouse buttons; instead of using the phones touchscreen.
I mainly will use this during demos on a big screen via the phones HDMI port.

The GXP1630 out-of-box will make and receive calls without any setup required, and you don't have to go into your nodes setup page either. Though, you may want to reserve the IP address the node gives the phone and advertise its existence
Another nice feature is the ability to add/edit the Contact/Speed-Dial list over the air. If you have phones deployed but find you need to add to the Contact List or Speed Dials... you can do this over the Mesh network; no need to physically visit each individual phone.

Grandstream (who also mfgrs the BasicTalk ATA) seems committed to supporting IP dialing.
Are their other mfgrs of IP phones that will do all this? Probably... but these are the ones I have hands-on experience with.
