Looking for others to start a mesh.
Hello fellow hams,

I am reaching out to the ham radio community in Anne Arundel County, particularly in the Pasadena area, to gauge interest in starting an Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network (ARDEN) mesh network. Living in the Pasadena region, I have great access to anyone living along Fort Smallwood Road, I believe leaving my house, I can network to Dundalk in Baltimore County, certain parts of Baltimore City, and even some areas in Kent County.

My current location in the Lake Shore area of Pasadena somewhat limits my range. However, I am exploring ideas to enhance our network's reach. Notably, I have secured access to the top of a tall building in Severna Park, which would be an ideal spot for establishing a solar-powered node. Additionally, I have potential sites in Catonsville and Ellicott City that could serve as strategic points for our network to expand into Howard and West Baltimore County.

If you are interested in joining this exciting endeavor, or if you have any suggestions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Hi
Hi Murray,
I just became interested in ARDEN, I live in Parkville MD just east of Towson.
Any suggestions about starting out would be most welcome.

Near you
Hi, Wayne:

On the World Map and nearest to you are W3ICK and W3NLE.
They are not registered on this forum, so may have not seen your post.
On the old Legacy Map is K3RMO, whose node was last updated in October 2023.
It might be fruitful to contact those stations and to post your interest on some local
Amateur Radio club newsletters.

My recommended 1st AREDN device is a ($) Mikrotik RB952Ui.
Others may recommend the ($$) Mikrotik RBD52G-5HacD2HnD or
the ($$$) Mikrotik RBD53iG-5HacD2HnD.
If you do not have RF neighbors, set up some internet tunnels.
Always aspire to build RF connected and off-power-grid networks.
Install services.
Then demonstrate your emergency service capability at ham radio gatherings and invite others to join.

Beginner's Guid
Wayne, there's a beginner's guide to AREDN here that might be helpful: http://orvsplace.net/aredn_stuff/AREDN_Beginners_Guide.pdf
Also, the documentation at arednmesh.org is excellent:  https://docs.arednmesh.org/en/latest/aredn_overview.html
