I applied the switch configuration file (GS105Ev2_2-2-1.cgf) successfully but after trying to come back in to the Netgear configuration utility (and selecting the switch and hitting 'Apply') I am getting an 'Incorrect Password' error. (password entered = aredn) I feel I am just making a stupid rookie mistake but cant figure it out. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Curious, did you try "password" (Netgear's default). I'm wondering if they've changed their restore process to not overwrite the prior password.
Also, try your prior password too.

Please let us know.

and FWIW, I had never reset the password prior to the config upload.

sounds like a reset is needed. press and hold the button while powering up. That should reset back to factory.
Are you using the web interface to set it, or, the Netgear config program?

I will give that a shot tomorrow...thanks. (as luck would have it I managed to destroy my network cable so I need to procure another...don't ask...ignorance plus impatience worked together to result in that outcome

And I was using the Netgear config program.

I have been using the web and it works well once you get the hang of it.
I have been trying to create a file that can be loaded into other nets/machines and if I save the configuration with DHCP disabled and a static ip specified, the person doing the restore gets a mismatch with the ip addresses.

I was going to write up the web process, but need to get past the mismatch errors.

Thoughts? Do i need to do the config with the switch default address and not disable DHCP?

As a side note do not be afraid to reboot the switch, close and restart the browser or reboot you computer. It has seemed to help in some cases.

Update (kind of)...

Update (kind of)...
I restored the switch to factory settings and tried the web interface. This time I couldn't even get the config file to load. I tried a couple different config files but all failed. When I went back to the config utility the upload worked and rebooted...but I was back to the switch password not working again.

Is anyone else running into either of these problems?

Despite that I was able to get the Picostation talking to an old Linksys mesh (just within my home) and then tunneled over to another mesh across the county successfully (through this switch).

The password is in cleartext

The password is in cleartext in the config file. Run a hex editor on it, to see of you can spot the password to validate.

Same Problem Here

I was just getting ready to make a similar post as I have tried everything above at least twice with no luck. I just got done doing a manual configuration and am going to test to see if I got my port assignments correct eliminating the need for the downloaded config file.

Can someone post the settings for this config? I am trying to DtD two nodes with a phone on port three, and a pi on port 4. I can see the first node and the pi.

Create vLan tags 1, 2, 10, 11 (1 exists by default)

where 'x' means leave it blank

What we are learning is that

What we are learning is that the Netgear backup config files can not be uploaded to another like device, in some cases (maybe many or most cases). At one point we opened up the covers on two devices to confirm identical hardware rev and firmware version. with everything the same, there were still failures saving a config on one and trying to load on another. We've not found the magic trick to distribute these config files yet--should someone want to further investigate and try to do some further reverse-engineering.

Really wierd

This set up does not give me WAN on port five that is shared with the rest of the system but I have corrected that and verified with a laptop plugged into port 4. What is really odd is that when I plug my Pi running Raspberry Asterisk into port 4 it does not get the wan service and internet access. Plugging it into my home router it works fine. Has anyone seen such behavior and have any idea why this is happening?

Still no internet connection

Thank you for the updated illustration. It does confirm that what I altered to get the WAN back is correct but what I am still running into is a mystery.

connecting my laptop to port four the Dell laptop, Win 7, receives full DHCP info thus gaining Internet access and ability fully across the mesh.
connecting the Raspberry Pi2 with Asterisk to the same port 4 it gets an IP from the node but does not appear to gain full DHCP config with gateway and DNS as it does not gain Internet access thus cannot run updates and function properly. When plugged into my home network router it functions flawlessly. Am I missing something? It must be something extremely simple yet is getting frustrating.

Yes, something is odd, this should work by default. If the laptop works, but the RasPi does not, on the same netgear port, then this would lean towards a config issue on RasPi. What do the output of these commands show on the RasPi?:

1) ifconfig
2) route
3) nslookup localnode
4) arp -a
5) ping <IP address of localnode>

Encrypted passwords in GS105/108 version 2.00.08 firmware

UPDATE: The latest Netgear GS105/108 firmware now encrypts the password. This means the password is NO LONGER "in the clear" in the cfg file.
It may be possible to exchange cfg files IF a common password is established and everyone remembers to use that password in their contributions.
A better approach is to post screen shots of the configuration pages.
