Ubiquiti NanoStation XM vs XW
I'm working on setting up an AREDN node, and since the rest of my home network is built on Ubiquiti, it seems like the NanoStation might be the right fit for me. I see that there are two versions, XM and XW, and I need to load the right software based on which version I get.

There's a web page, perhaps older than the current supported devices page, that I was pointed at:
https://www.arednmesh.org/content/supported-platform-matrix
that shows the XM version as sunsetting. I'd rather not buy something that will soon be obsolete, so if the XM version is sunsetting, how do I make sure I get the XW version when I buy one? I don't see anything on dealers' websites that indicates which version they're shipping.

Thanks and 73,

Nanostations
They're pretty old school.  If you're on 5 GHz, a better choice might be the Mikrotik SXTsq HP (SXTsq5HPnD).

There's not a lot of 2.4 GHz AREDN gear being installed these days.  Having only one 10 Mhz channel in the Part 97 band makes it pretty limiting when you're building a network.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Orv.
Thanks, Orv. That particular Microtik  product seems to be discontinued (per their website). But it sounds like I should be looking at other than just Ubiquiti; this isn't going to integrate closely with my home network anyway (other than being carried on its own VLAN). I do plan on using 5 GHz.

Hi, Jim:
The SXTsq nD devices are replaced with SXTsqG acD devices.
You seem to be located in a super heavily developed and active AREDN area.
I suggest that you seek local assistance with your 1st or next AREDN purchase.

Local advice
Good advice, Chuck. I have reached out to the proprietor of the local hilltop node I'm planning to connect to.
