Planning on setting up a couple IP phones for direct-IP dialing...
The phones are a pair of Grandstream 1625s. I'm expecting them in a few days, and wanted to make sure I had some grasp of how to set them up.

I plan to set one up with an airrouter to be pretty portable, and another to live near my home hAP.

What ports to I need to set up to forward on the nodes? 5060? Anything else?

Is it necessary to change any firmware settings on the phones?

No.

Plug them into one of the LAN
Plug them into one of the LAN ports (2 - 4) on the hAP.  Done.
They should come defaulted to DHCP, so they will get a DHCP address from the hAP.  You likely should assign a DHCP reserved address in the hAP so the phone always gets the same address.

OK, I have the two GXP1625's
OK, I have the two GXP1625's up and running. The inability to add direct IP dialed contacts to the address book is a pretty big annoyance, though.

I picked up a DP750 and two DP720's. I've paired the handsets to the base station and can make calls by direct IP dial usign the more convenient *47 shortcut, and have added the GXP1625s to the phonebook. Calls from the cordless handsets work to the GXP1625s, but calls from the GXP1625s to the handsets don't seem to go through. The IP address is for the base station, and I don't know how to select a handset from there. The only difference between them seems to be the IPEI, which looks like a MAC address. Any ideas on how to place calls to the wireless handsets linked to the base station? Port addresses make sense, but I don't see how to assign a port to a handset.

I've never used this set before
I bought the Grandstream GXP1625 for use with our mesh.  I've never played with one of these before.  Do I set it up like the tutorial for normal set up?  I've plugged the lan line that's connected to one of my M2 bullets.  We do have a system capable of IP dialing phone to phone.  I've tried dialing out, but I'm not successful.  How do I get this to interface?

"Do I set it up like the tutorial for normal set up?"
Please share the URL of the 'normal set up' document.

"I've plugged the lan line that's connected to one of my M2 bullets."
I have an ethernet cable connecting the LAN port of the phone to the LAN port of the POE powering the Bullet M2.

"I've tried dialing out, but I'm not successful."
Exactly how did you try?

"How do I get this to interface?"

What IP address did your GXP1525 have when you tried to dial?
What did you dial?
What was the IP address of the phone you tried to dial?
Can you 'PING' both phones from your network connection?

Dialing out
The phone ip address is: 10.167.163.173.  I tried another IP address in our mesh system.  Just a busy signal.

Hi David,
Hi David,
Just wanted to make sure you used the "keypad underneath the LCD display" to get to direct ip call.  Press the white center button (with the up/down/right/left arrows) and then arrow down about 5 menu choices to "Direct IP Call".  Press the white center button and enter the IP address using the * as the decimal point between like 10*x*y*z Press OK.

I think I had the same issue as you when I first ever tried entering the IP address after just picking up the handset.  Just thinking out loud.

General Comment
When setting up a phone for direct-ip dialing keep in mind that this feature may need to be turned on in the phone first. Just because a phone is known to to support direct-ip dialing, it does not mean it will work right out of the box. Search through the various configuration screens in the phone just to be sure.

I have seen many phones advertised on the Mesh along with their ip address implying that they will accept direct-ip calls. However, when that ip address is called, there's no response from the phone. The call goes high and dry.
