Will there be a mesh network for Dayton Hamvention 2022 ?
The new Salvation Army communication van will be going to Dayton this year from Kansas City.

This  van was donated by  Ford and equip by the Amateur Radio operators and
Clubs. This include AREDN nodes.

If the mesh will be available, what configuration will be needed  for the communication van so
it could participate in the mesh network.

Thank you
Bill (KA2FNK)

Hi, Bill:

Short answer: Yes.

"what configuration will be needed for the communication van so it could participate in the mesh network. "

An AREDN device.
I will endeavor to provide 900, 3400, and 5800 MHz outdoor nodes at the venue.
Plans are underway(*) to install a 'downlink' from the high profile site ~0.5 miles from the venue.

Positive: I am an event volunteer and will have site access during the days before Hamvention '22.
Negative: I will be busy with my volunteer duties during Hamvention hours.

Chuck,
Chuck,

Great news.
Will the channel width be 10 MHZ on 5800. I'll configure the until to be ready.
Thanks

Hi, Bill:

It is way too soon to tell.
There is no AREDN network capable equipment at the venue, yet.
There is a SISO 2397/10 MHz AREDN node at 0.5 miles distant.

Due to the very short distance, likely, 20 MHz bandwidth and channel 137 or 141.
As Hamvention weekend approaches, check

for updates.

We have a PBX. Will you have VoIP capability?
I can give you an extension or you can SIP dial by nodename or IP address.

Chuck,
Chuck,

Thanks
We are planning to add an ip phone by the time of  the Hamvention.
I will check back to as the event nears fpr the node info.

Thanks

I'm going to try to have a node active at our space in the boneyard (7908).

The node I had planned to bring is 2 gig (rocket on an 2x2 omni), sounds like I should put something together on 5 gig instead? Or 900? Any suggestions would be welcome.

Was there any decision on 5g channel? 20 mhz? I checked the map and saw some nodes for XWARN and DARA,, but nothing near the boneyard yet.

Stop by and visit, would love to talk with others working with AREDN. We'll have an extra chair or two. Red canopy. Will be pretty obvious, there will be a bunch of UBNT radios, dishes, and antennas out. (My boneyard buddy is a WISP)

Thanks,

Hi, Alan: Expect to find a 900, 3400, and 5800 MHz @ 20 MHz BW nodes near Bldg 4 Volta by sundown Thursday. Chuck

Meshed with a KD8 2g briefly. Will put up a 5g pointed toward

Have the 2G node (rocket on 13db omni 2397/-2) on solar up about 20 feet. Meshed with a KD8 2g on and off during the day.
Will try to put up a 5g pointed toward the arena tomorrow. Will need to flash something as we sold the nanobridge dishes.

Stop by and say hello if you are neaer 7908.

Hope to make it up to the AREDN booth, is there a booth or building number?

Bldg 4 near the racetrack
I have 2397/10, 3400/20, and 5660/20 MHz nodes up.
I'll try to add a 900 MHz today.
I see:
3400: W1HS Steve
2397: W1HS, KS0SA (Salvation Army van), KD8TNV Brock (during flea market hours).

If you are East of Bldg 3 (or maybe West of Bldg 1), try channel 165 (5825/20 MHz) and aim North

What configuration will be needed?
At present, primary user access at the Hamvention venue will be default AREDN 2397 MHz settings.
There is a SISO node 0.5 miles North of the venue.
We have recently improved the 5 GHz PtP links.
For the latest system status, check the hourly updated map at http://gelm.net/meshmap/

Should have omni on 2g and dish on 5g
Thanks for the update, we should have an 2x2 omni 2g active and a nanobridge 1 ft dish on 5g.

I plan on bring my AR150 and USB150 with me.   Going to have the AR150 up a flyfishing rod with a high gain wifi antenna. Plan on attaching it to my car while I go walk around Hamvention for the day. Might even deploy it when I am at the motel I am staying at.

Going to be my first time actually getting into the AREDN mesh. :) Not much of it on the south side of Chicago.

We will do better next year.

Where I had set my tripod, mast, and nodes at the last Hamvention (3 years ago),
had become rented flea market spots.
I had to find another way to egress the building to run an ethernet cable to nodes.
I got the tripod, mast, and 2.4, 3.4, and 5.7 GHz nodes up on Friday.
I pointed my loco M2 toward flea market spot 7908 (KM4BA), but only saw IP addresses.
KS0SA (Salvation Army van) was linked via RF to our local AREDN network, however its link was poor quality.
I linked with Steve W1HS in the campground on Saturday evening on 3.4 GHz.
I linked to our local AREDN network via tunnel on Sunday.
I got the lat/lon values corrected 1 hour before close of show. :-|

Saw a couple of nodes but never nc8q
I saw two 8 stations over the weekend, and then one station with just an IP address. I'm guessing either my rocket or loaner 13db Omni antenna may not have been fully functional as I would think we would have heard you on 2g at 15 ft. Still was fun and good practice! See you guys next year. 73, Alan KM4BA
