Tunnel Request CA Central Coast
Hello:

After getting a hand full of M5-Ti radios programmed (big thanks to Don Hill) I am finally assembling a 120 Degree Sector 5920 MHz M5-Ti radio with an ER-X router and IP Web Cam for GravelPeak.com and looking for a nearby tunnel host until I can find an RF host and put up a point to point link.     I have read the ER-X config notes but it doesn't mention how to Tunnel.     Any help would be much appreciated to finally get this system on the air.

Thank you,
Chris K7AZ

Tunnel
Chris it makes sense for you to tunnel down the coast south.  SB isn't up yet, but we can link you to Ventura County at least.  Drop me a DM when you're ready to set up your tunnel client (BTW, it'd easiest with a Mikrotik hAP AC Lite loaded with AREDN software.

Mikrotik hAP vs ER-X
Hi Orv,
Would it be possible to get a proposed network/port/tunnel diagram I can hand to my network guru?
IMHO, the Mikrotik seem perfect for a home AREDN system, but it brings un-needed RF to a remote site that has external radios providing AP and future back haul.
I have a managed POE switch that can do VLAN's as needed and two possible Interweb connections on site.  The IP Cam should be easy plug and play that way.      Looking forward to getting this up and running AREDN has come a long way.
Thank you,

Mesh RF Turn Off?
I assume that would be the RF aspect of the hAP router or uncheck the mesh RF on the AREDN UI-M5-Ti radio?
I should have hAP on Friday.

How to DM you?
Hi Orv,     I am not sure how to DM you.    Can you let me know best way?

Thanks,

" I have read the ER-X config notes but it doesn't mention how to Tunnel."

Hi, Chris:

An AREDN device can be configured as a tunnel client and/or server.
The 'ER-X' is not an AREDN device, hence it is not the device to be configured as a tunnel.

One of your M5-Ti radios would have the tunnel application installed.

You do have internet access at GravelPeak.com for the tunnel-client?
Else, independent internet access for a tunnel-server?

I hope this helps,
Chuck

Tunnel Client Config

Hi Chuck,
Yes, each of my M5-Ti radios so far have the Tunnel Client and Server set up.   I have two different internet source options on the hilltop.    For my preferred provider, I need to assign a static IP address to the M5-Ti so that fits with their system.
I would assume the AREDN M5-Ti would then hand out 10.xxx addresses to those Stations/Sub's on 5920 MHz.
Am I on the right track?

If so, I would like to try out the AP at home on DHCP LAN and setup a sub radio to see the link actually come up.

I have two different internet source options

Hi, Chris:

You only need the tunnel apk on the (1) node with internet access.
Yes, you can use a DHCP client or set a static address for the node's WAN port.
If the host's internet router can be set to port forward port 5525 to your attached node,
then you can run tunnel server;
else, you must run tunnel client.
You will need a properly programmed VLAN switch so that the node can get a WAN address from the ISP
(Or use a Mikrotik hAP or similar at the site).

"I would assume the AREDN M5-Ti would then hand out 10.xxx addresses to those Stations/Sub's on 5920 MHz. "

Whoa!
No. No 10.x.x.x addresses will be 'handed out' on any AREDN frequency.
(Any node can be set up as an AP Access Point (DHCP-server), but that was not mentioned earlier in this thread.)
Please define "Stations/Sub's on 5920 MHz"!
I have no clue what a "Station/Sub' is.
Why do you mention frequency?

Typically, all the nodes at the same site will be DtD connected.
If you need to add a LAN service port, then you will need a properly programmed VLAN switch.
LAN service: a laptop, camera, RaspberryPi, ...

I hope this helps,
Chuck

Nearly ready to work on the hAP unit firmware.
Life seems to get in the way of this project but I am determined to see it though.   XYL got me a 2nd hAP for Christmas so I am ready to fly on AREDN shortly.

Ubiquiti LiteBeam M5?
Has anyone deployed a Ubiquiti LiteBeam M5 ?   Curious which firmware was successful.

Thanks,
