TP-Link Archer T3U USB dongle
Hi,
Forgive if this has been brought up before. Can this USB dongle be adapted to AREDN? It has 2 and 5 GHz freqs and is MIMO enabled.

Thanks in advance,

I don't want to speak for the developers, but if the device is not on the supported list, there is little chance of getting support for it for AREDN. It may be supported by the OpenWRT project. In reality a dongle would probably be a poor choice for a mesh network because of its limited range. A cluster of laptops with USB dongles would work much better connected to an AP via the usual wifi connection, which could then uplink to an AREDN mesh.

Actually, a whole bunch of us have the GL.iNet USB150 which is a USB dongle.  They are actually quite useful.  I use mine in one of two ways.  Either plugged into my laptop with the USB150 configured as an AREDN mesh node while in close proximity to a 2.4 GHz AREDN node so that my laptop can access the AREDN mesh.  Or plugged into my laptop with the USB150 configured as a WiFi client to some other WiFi hotspot (usually my phone) and then using that internet connection have the USB150 tunnel into one of my home nodes to give me access to the AREDN network.  When the USB150 is not being used elsewhere, it is plugged into a USB wall wort to power it, and it connects via 2.4 GHz AREDN to my Mikrotik hAP (about 6 feet away).  That way I can do firmware updates, and make sure it's still working.

If the device in not in the OpenWRT table of hardware, there will not be an AREDN firmware release.

I hope this helps,

TP-link dongle
Chuck,
Thank you for the info. I did check and it isn't on the list.sad I liked that it has both 2 and 5 GHz and thought it could replace my HaPlite. I do have the Gli-Net USB150 and it works well and as you know can't do two things at a time (i.e. mesh node and AP) like the HaP.
