Help! I broke something

Hi everyone, I'm not sure what I did, but I can't access my mesh node from my main PC right now. I'm connected to it by ethernet cable, it (an hAP) is connected to the internet from my Ubiquiti Dream Machine, which is connected to my cable modem.

When I go to localnode:8080, it automatically redirects to http://localnode.local.mesh:8080/cgi-bin/status, but then gives me this error:

This site can’t be reached

Check if there is a typo in localnode.local.mesh.

 

  • If spelling is correct, try running Windows Network Diagnostics.
DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN

When I use my dns service url I can reach it... You might be able to, also, by going to km6slf.hopto.org:8080

First things to try are
First things to try are rebooting your node then PC. That message sounds like a DNS lookup failure. That could be caused by either the service crashing in the node, a stale network assignment on the computer, or sometimes other issues. Restarting them in that order should fix either of those possible issues.

If it still doesn't work after that, make sure the computer is set to receive both it's IP address and DNS servers via DHCP.

DNS is finiky at times. 
DNS is finiky at times.  Bookmark the IP of each of your nodes and that always works (as long as there is actually a path).

DNS, Windows 10 and MESH Nodes
I've experienced this issue often and it seems to be much worse with the latest Windows 10.  Rebooting everything which clears the Cache works although as suggested, it is a pain when you have to do so often.  If you are like me, your network has a bunch of hardware attached and at times these thing take off on
a life mission of their own.  It's never dull and often not easy.  The universal cure does seem to be the reboot.
