I have updated the firmware to nightly builds on an M3 Rocket (M), Some Powerbeams, and Nanostations XM.
When I try to upload a package on any of the more recent nightly builds, including the latest 1936 on the M3 Rocket, I keep getting a "Signature Check Failed" "Remove wrong Signature file" message and cannot load the desired SNMPT package.
Past packages have loaded fine on some 1769 nightly builds, but not when I now try to refresh the list of packages currently on that build.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards
Bob

I have 1936 on all 14 of my nodes (various hardware) and quite a few have at least some package or packages installed. I have not noticed any issues.
In Admin, I clicked on Refresh and usually all the available packages are listed in the Download package window. They don't show and I get below the Package Management header the "Signature Check Fail" "Remove wrong Signature File" notations.
If there is another way to download the packages, store on computer then load them to the node, please let me know.
Thanks
Bob
So not sure why it wouldn't do it in the most recent three nightly builds.
Bob, the AREDN nightly builds are produced once per day as new code is added, so a specific nightly build image could be obsoleted the very next day if there is new code. That actually happened last night, too. A new nightly build image obsoleted the previous ones as of 09:48utc today. If you need to install packages on a nightly build, it's best to do it immediately (the same day) before it has a chance of being replaced the next day. The package signature file is updated every time a new nightly build is generated.
One thing you could do is to install the SNMPd package manually. You will need to resolve any package dependencies yourself, but it's definitely do-able. Using the SNMPd package as an example, snmpd_5.8-1_mips_24kc.ipk depends upon libnetsnmp_5.8-1_mips_24kc.ipk, which itself has a dependency on libpci_3.6.2-3_mips_24kc.ipk So you can download those 3 packages to your computer from http://downloads.arednmesh.org/snapshots/trunk/packages/mips_24kc/packages/ and then connect to your node. Install the 3 packages in reverse order: 1) libpci 2) libnetsnmp 3) snmpd and then reboot the node.
One thing to be aware of is that in my opinion the snmp package has limited usefulness, but there is a fairly high cost for running it on your node -- it uses about 5% of the available memory. Here is a link to a previous forum post on running the snmp package: https://www.arednmesh.org/comment/15107#comment-15107
So maybe I'm still not understanding all this as a few months ago, I was able to upload the packages on nightly builds with no issue.
I understand the reasoning behind doing the package same day as nightly, but that didn't seem to work this time. Maybe it's the new the github move for now.
BTW, our MESH IT guy (not me) has us using Observium to monitor node status and send us an email when they go down or recover. SMNTP is required for that to work is my understanding.
Re: manually loading, I'll see if I can make that work on a test node.
I'm learning a lot and here's one more tid bit.
Thanks and 73
Bob
I'm not familiar with Ovservium, but maybe see if it can simply look for pings. I am monitoring several nodes with nothing more than pings.
Hi, Bob:
I apologize for being a syntax/grammar troll, but do you mean 'SNMPD' or 'snmpd 5.8-1' ?
Simple Network Management Protocol.
I installed Nightly Build '25' on a Nanostation M3 and then installed 'snmpd 5.8-1' on it.
When I browse to
http://nc8q-m3-192.local.mesh:8080/cgi-bin/admin
and click 'Download', I see 'Signature checked passed.' after each package.
I hope this helps,
Chuck
Don't quite understand the browse: when you say browse using the link then click download. I'm on the MESH, then copy that link in the URL box and nothing comes up.
Does the link take me to a website to download the package to install? Or am I not seeing how to do this from the AREDN Package Management Page.
Regards
Bob
"that link" is to my node.
Your link will be to your node.
I assumed your were familiar with where and how to view your node's web pages and how to navigate to the 'Administration' page.
Use this 'Package Management' page:
https://arednmesh.readthedocs.io/en/stable/arednGettingStarted/advanced_config.html#administration
"Does the link take me to a website to download the package to install?"
Your node's link will, automagically, use the correct link to the packages for the version of firmware you have installed.
The link works for 'Stable' releases and only the current Nightly Build, whichever is installed on your node.
I notice that, as of this moment, the current nightly is dated 12-31-2020.
Since it is now past 09:00 UTC, this current nightly will, likely, last at least the next 24 hours.
I hope this helps,
Chuck
