hAP not providing Internet to NSM2 unit

I have a Nanostation M2 XM connected via the POE port to a hAP via port 2.
The hAP port 1 is connected via router to the Internet (192.168.88.0)
The router is a MikroTik hEX.
I expected the Nanostation to have Internet access, but it does not.
Both units are on nightly build 883.
The NS doesn't appear to have a default GW.
On the mesh view, there is no note about a dtd connection between the units.
Not sure what I am doing wrong.
Advice appreciated!

Don,  can you attach a support download (from Admin page)?  This will give the detail to see what is going on.  Need from both nodes to see the data from both sides of the fence.

Joe,
Files added below.
Also, I tried switching out all the cables to see if that made a difference.
Thanks for taking a look.

Don,  check the basic setup
Don,  check the basic setup page on the Nanostation -- "Allow others to use my WAN"  box checked?

Joe,
That is off / unchecked.
Although, I have tried checking it to see if it made a difference. It did not.

It needs to be checked for the Nano to reach the internet. Double check to save settings, then reboot the node.

Joe,
That did it. Seems a bit counterintuitive, but it sure works.
Does this allow the entire NoVA mesh Internet access?
Or just the unit connected by Ethernet to the hAP?
Appreciate your time spent on this.

the entire mesh will get the
the entire mesh will get the broadcast message that your hAP is an available route to the internet.

And my bad. Turns out that I checked the box on the hAP, not the Nano. So I'm back where I started. The hAP has Internet, but not the Nano. I was hoping that if I connected a Nano to the hAP via Ethernet cable, with the hAP having Internet on port 1, the Nano would have Internet access but not the whole mesh. 73, Don KM4DC

wan

I think you have to provide an Ethernet connection to the WAN port of each of your nodes if you want each of them to have Internet access, without your location serving as an Internet gateway for the whole mesh.

I'm sure there is a way to mess with the firewalls so that only one designated node gets the Internet from your WAN-connected node, but that is not a supported configuration and would be lost when firware is updated.

Port 5
Does port 5 have only DtD on it? Could also have WAN, as an advanced option?

Port 5
Ian,
If I connect the Nano M2 to the hAP port 5 via Ethernet, the Nano does show up with both a dtd and RF connection on the mesh.
But, the Nano does not seem to have Internet access. The hAP does have Internet OK.
Internet is on port 1 of the hAP.
Thanks,
Don, KM4DC

wan
Ken,
I connected an Internet feed to the PoE LAN port, but the Nano M2 is not showing an Internet connection.
I used the same connection that works OK on the hAP. I just moved it over and rebooted the Internet feed and the Nano.
The Nano is running 883-71325a9 fw.
Thanks,

Have to ask
i am gonna have to ask how you check for Internet connection on the nano station?
If you are only looking for a wan IP on the status page, or a default gateway, then you are giving a false alarm here.
The nano station will NOT have a wan or default gateway in this configuration as it does NOT have a direct link to the wan (vlan 1), even though it has access to the wan via the hAP.  It is mainly routing all the traffic (including the internet) via the DtD link.

The only way to find out if the nano station has internet access (and I am pretty sure it does) is by connecting a host (a computer) to its LAN network directly (probably from the secondary port) and test for internet connectivity.

the port 5 in the hAP has only dtd link and the wan traffic is encapsulated in it. Ot doesn’t carry both vlan1,2 so that you would see a direct connection to your home router, and hence a default gateway.

Hope I made that clear.

Thanks for the feedback. I've been using Show Map in location settings or post location to web map Don, KM4DC

vlan

Someone can correct me if I am wrong but:

The ubnt airRouter and the MikroTik HAP are the only two devices that do not need an external vlan-aware switch for full functionality.

For other devices you need to pair the radio with a vlan-aware switch (like the GS-105 or -108) in order to connect to the Internet (and to do some other things).

Maybe the GL-AR150 as well?
Ken,
I'm not positive (I'll have to fire mine up and look) but I think think the new GL-AR150 doesn't need an external managed switch, but it only has 2 Ethernet ports, so you're limited compared to the MikroTik hAP-ac-lite, for example.

WAN with NS

In a separate note, Joe Ayers confirmed that, with the latest NanoStation firmware, both ports are identical and WAN is available tagged as vlan 1.

To use the WAN connection, you need something that can select and untag the WAN traffic, e.g., a VLAN-aware switch.

Thanks Ken, I have a GS108E
Thanks Ken, I have a GS108E switch and the article on the AREDN config. I'll give it try when I get back.

The GL-AR150 is in the middle
The GL-AR150 is in the middle. It can do WAN and LAN without an external switch.  It would need an external switch to do DtDLink.  2 ports, 1 LAN/DtDLink, the other WAN (no tags) and directly connects to a home network or internet.
